Dear Cal,

Sorry I didn't get to see you
before your "Reassignment",
but as a Marine I understand
when the "orders" come, we
go.

I know all about your "New
Duty Station". It is really
great !!!. No more shining
brass, I hear everything
there is GOLD. They have a
great air wing, and the best
choir. You can even join now
because you have a new
voice. I know you are busy
with the family and all your
old and new friends.

I know I'll be getting my
orders there too, just don't
know when. But till then, I
have your back my brother
and as always.......

The Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.
(1934-1998)

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars....the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
and more often wear a smile..
Remembering that this special dash
May last only a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

REFLECTIONS

You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years.
It seems just yesterday that I was a young man, just married and embarking on my new life with my
wife. And yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I
lived them all...
And I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams... But, here it is...the
winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...
How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my babies go? And where did
my youth go?
I remember well... seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were
years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it
would be like...
But, here it is...the end is much closer, my wife has already passed on. My babies are grown and
gone.
Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a
treat anymore...it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will...I just fall asleep where I sit!
And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the
loss of strength and ability to go and do things.
But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...This I
know, that when it's over... I will enjoy the Spring in the arms of my loving Father...and wait for my
loved ones to come when their winter is over too.
So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So,
whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly!
"Life is God's gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to God. Make it a fantastic one."
